The General Merchandise Store is not a replica of any specific building but is typical of the architecture of the Gold Rush Days. Prior to opening, Walter Knott took care in filling the store with authentic merchandise in keeping with his Ghost Town. The first merchandise obtained for stocking the store came from an old store about 40 miles north of Santa Barbara. Mr. Knott found an 80-year-old-gentleman who had kept the same store for more than 40 years. After the coming of the automobile the town had moved away but the old gentleman stayed on with his store. Today, the General Store is filled with items that are both a tribute to Ghost Town and the rich 100 year history of Knott’s Berry Farm. Durable and timeless, our enamel collection was designed to honor the beloved General Store.
